Greetings Blog Readers,

I am very excited to share with you one of my favorite neighborhoods in Atlanta. East Atlanta is a great place for food, shopping, fun, tattoos and music! This Saturday, September 17th, East Atlanta will be hosting its 14th annual East Atlanta Strut Parade, 5k and Festival. You know one of my favorite words is….FREE! Yes it is a free festival with many booths, music performances and volunteers raising money for further East Atlanta neighborhood projects. I have attached a link for more information and I will definitely be there. I hope to see you there and enjoy one of my favorite Atlanta secrets.

If you were like me last weekend, you were stuck in the house for Labor Day due to all the rain. If you are looking for a fun event to do there is the Yellow Daisy Festival at Stone Mountain Park. Tons of fun crafts, shows, concerts and events. Enjoy all Stone Mountain Park has to offer too. There is only a $10 parking fee per car which you really cannot beat. Enjoy this beautiful weather before it gets cold.

Dragon *Con is taking over Atlanta This Weekend

I know some of you are scratching your heads wondering what is Dragon *Con? Others are super excited about this once a year event that allows Galactica Geeks, old school Trekkies, Star Warriors, Comic book Gurus, and Curious Voyagers to take over Atlanta for the weekend. 40,000+ fantasy fans will be in and around the city having the time of their lives. I have highlighted some events around the city supporting the convention. For all of you Curious Voyagers who do not have the money to attend the convention, you can view the 10th Annual Parade on Peachtree Street starting at 10am on Saturday.

The 10th Annual Parade hits Peachtree Street at 10am on Saturday and we think an Irish Coffee or two will make the people watching a lot more fun. Michelle S is on the same wavelength, as she recommends Meehan’s Public Houseas “the perfect place to watch a parade.” If you want to stake out a prime spot, Café Intermezzo is waiting for you, starting at 6am. Fill your belly for a full day of fun like Rachel H with “everything from fruit cups to Eggs Florentine (which are delicious and huge, by the way).” Or grab a sandwich to-go after the show from Reuben’s Deli, which Jennifer Tproclaims “makes magic in your mouth.” ATL doesn’t need George Lucas, we’ve got Claudio!

The hotels close at night to those who don’t have passes, but bars around the neighborhood will still be action packed. Start the evening at Sweet Georgia’s Juke Joint, where Jessica A enjoys the chill ambiance and live music. Meanwhile, Eowyn C highly recommends taking advantage of the deal and the view at SkyLounge, where a signature drink is just $5 during their “Flip Flop Fridays.” And if you need to coat your stomach before you pass out, Anatolia Café is open late. Jessica W hits them up for hookah and huge portions.

Some would argue that the best part of Dragon*Con is the incredible outfits, so be sure to get prepared properly atCostumes, Etc… Katharine S appreciates that the staff “exemplifies the triumvirate of values of retail folks: pleasant, helpful, and unobtrusive.” Or if you prefer to create your costume from scratch, Binders Art Supplies likely has anything you need. “The dazzling rows of creative inventory” make crafty types like Sheree H ”feel like a kid in a candy store. A really big candy store.

Calling all foodies! Calling all foodies! I am happy to announce it is Midtown Atlanta Restaurant Week from August 27th-September 4th. I LOVE restaurant week but I never know when they happen until it is almost over. Plan your week now to join in on this 6th annual event. It is a great way to enjoy a three-course meal at some Atlanta’s most elegant and trending restaurants for only $25 to $35 set price. Normally you could not walk out the door of most of these restaurants without spending at least $45 to $60 for just a salad and main course. Just be aware that you are subject to eat prix-fixe meals, which are meals that the restaurant has chosen to be apart of this special offer. There is always something on there for everyone. I have attached a link to a list of all participating restaurants. So put on your fancy clothes and make your way to Midtown to join in on Midtown Atlanta Restaurant Week.

There is a free Latino Festival in Piedmont Park in Atlanta today, August 28th from 11am-8pm. I am always looking of ways to experience different cultures in the south and festivals are always a great way to do it. This is one of the largest multicultural festivals in the Southeast. Did I mention this is a FREE festival? Come out and enjoy exhibits, family events, arts and crafts, free performances, ethnic food and so much more.
